October 2023 Summary

It's now the evening of November 11th. After browsing for a long time on a certain treasure and a certain east, I found that Double Eleven is nothing special, with more hype than real discounts. Plus, I recently bought the pajamas and tablet I wanted, so I won't be spending today. As for the AI4S competition mentioned last time, I ended up in 25th place and didn't win any awards, which was expected for someone like me who is an outsider to machine learning.

Back to the main topic, October wasn't as easy and pleasant as I imagined; it was at least busier than September. The beginning of October basically continued the style of September, focusing on a lazy and relaxed vibe. I got some chores done in advance, like laundry and assignments, because I was going to start my trip to Yunnan in the middle of the month.

The trip to Yunnan in the middle of the month had a route of Kunming → Lijiang → Dali. The most impressive and experiential part was definitely Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, with its clear scenery and the feeling of oxygen deprivation, both of which were completely new experiences for me. A bit disappointing was the trip to Erhai Lake in Dali; the local "market atmosphere" felt a bit excessive (simply put, everyone was just focused on making money). I also rode a bicycle all day, which ended with me getting sunburned. By the way, I also celebrated my birthday in Yunnan. Interestingly, my birthday is on the same day as my travel companion TX, so we celebrated two birthdays during one trip, which felt like a bit of a gain. Oh, and my birthday gift from my partner was the Swiss Army Knife I had always wanted, so I can finally cut fruits in the dormitory. Thank you, my partner!

In the latter part of the month, after returning to school from Yunnan, I got a glimpse of the complexity of future research life. With several group meetings a week and inspection tasks as a computer administrator, I felt a bit overwhelmed coming back from vacation. However, considering that I had essentially been on break for a long time this semester, I think it's acceptable to be a bit busier as the semester comes to an end. But then I thought, since I filled my schedule last semester by choosing all the courses to make this semester easier, shouldn't I also enjoy this? I won't answer that here; I'll just pose the question and leave it for the future to judge.

November 5th is my partner's birthday, and the stars and handwritten letter I prepared for a long time were successfully delivered (the delivery was fast and great). I hope that future birthdays can be celebrated together with my partner. This is my small wish; I wonder what my partner's birthday wish is. Let's end this issue with such thoughts.
