July 2024 Summary

It is now the evening of August 15, and I am writing these words at home. The summary that was originally scheduled to be written at the beginning of the month has once again turned into a mid-month report, but it has been exactly a month since the last summary, which can be considered in line with the definition of a "monthly summary."

Let's rewind to mid-July, when I hadn't had the chance to fully enjoy the happy life with Bao before they returned home, and I found myself back in the daily work routine. The new employee "orientation training" had already ended, and what followed was the more brutal internal training within the team. The atmosphere in the office was filled with a sense of "Will the boss lose their temper today? 🔥" as everyone counted down the days until the next holiday. But no matter how we counted, the days wouldn't pass any faster, and the high temperatures in Wuhan were testing the endurance of those commuting to and from work. Although the air conditioning in the office made the temperature more bearable, the atmosphere of "Will the boss lose their temper today? 🔥" still lingered. Furthermore, with the compulsory education phase long gone and even the undergraduate phase a thing of the past, the so-called winter and summer vacations had clearly transformed into annual leave and "high-temperature leave," significantly reducing both the duration and quality of time off, with one or two weeks of vacation being the longest available. Fortunately, such days lasted only a little over ten days, and I decided to go home on July 27 to ensure I had a month of summer vacation. As a freshman, the boss didn't put up much resistance and agreed. After enduring those ten days that felt like years, I finally got home on July 27. By the way, I had a wisdom tooth extracted 🦷 before returning home.

After getting home, I naturally spent a few days sleeping in and waking up naturally, while occasionally checking on work matters in between entertainment. I signed up for a lightweight introductory course on OpenFOAM, which provided a bit of basic guidance, and I began studying the relevant theories of partial differential equations and the finite volume method. In terms of engineering practice, I picked up C++, which I hadn't used in a long time, and I already felt a bit unfamiliar with it, needing to relearn it slowly. August 7 marked the beginning of autumn, and the pace of rising temperatures finally began to ease a bit. Although this summer was still very hot, I felt it was slightly better than the same period last year, at least the temperature at home hadn't exceeded 40°C. August 10 was the Qixi Festival, and I received a mouse pad, wrist rest, and pajamas from Bao, all practical and good-looking items that I really needed. I gave Bao a starry sky necklace and a massage pillow (also practical and good-looking w), and Bao said my taste should align with theirs, which I wholeheartedly agreed with.

Days in Garydun always seem to fly by unnoticed, and in half a month, I will be back to work (Bao has even started working already). The summary for next month will likely be written at school. I hope I can adapt to the rhythm of graduate school soon and enter a good research state. See you next time 👋.
